IT’S TIME NEW JERSEY TEACHERS ARE PROVIDED THE FACTS BEHIND THE TEACHER PENSION CRISIS
DID YOU KNOW…The NJEA Executive Leadership quietly created their own gold-plated pension plan which is over-funded…. all paid for by teachers’ highest-in-the-nation dues …
MEANWHILE…New Jersey’s actual teachers are forced to join a vastly inferior pension plan that is severely under-funded and puts all teacher retirements at risk.
These are the facts – and they are indisputable.
In a follow-up to its September report, “Ugly Truths and Hard Facts About New Jersey’s Pension Crisis, Part I,” the Sunlight Policy Center of New Jersey released today Part II of that report directed specifically at New Jersey teachers. Part II reveals how the NJEA Executive Leadership granted themselves very generous pensions and made sure they were very secure – but neglected to secure teachers’ pensions so that they are now in peril. The Executive Leadership have also allowed teachers’ pensions to be weakened to the point where now a majority of teachers will lose money in the pension system they are all forced to join. Teachers must understand these ugly truths and hard facts and demand better from their Executive Leadership.
“WOW. I’m a recently retired teacher after 32 years and am totally flabbergasted by the facts in this report. I hope every teacher in the state reads it. Our union leadership only cares about themselves – the facts are clearly lined up for everyone to see. This is the reason I had opted out of the NJEA. Teachers need to stop feeding the beast. I truly hope this is read by ALL paying union members. We need to change things in Trenton and it is time for hard-working teachers to organize and demand better.”

NJEA’s Executive Leadership made sure they did not have to worry about their own gold-plated pensions … but they have done the same for New Jersey’s actual teachers, the very people they are supposed to work for.
Our teachers deserve better.
With this report, SPCNJ brings the facts to light.
It is time for New Jersey teachers to understand that they are getting a very bad deal from their leadership.
It’s time for New Jersey citizens to understand the facts regarding this pension crisis so we can fix the problem now and not pass the costs on to future generations.
As always, every assertion is fact-based, researched and footnoted.
