Thanks to the Star-Ledger for publishing Sunlight’s op-ed “N.J. Teachers Need to be Told the Truth: Their Pensions Are in Jeopardy.” Hopefully, many NJ teachers will see it and start to ask questions about the condition of their pension fund. The NJEA, which is supposed to be looking out for their interests, has not been calling them the truth: their pension plan has less than 25 cents set aside for each dollar it owes to teachers, and the Brookings study cited in the op-ed projects that it will run out of money in 12-15 years. Why aren’t teachers being told the truth?
