NJ Left Behind is spot-on when it comes to calling out the Education Law Center’s most recent hypocrisy. ELC famously proclaims that it’s looking out for disadvantaged kids, but NJ Left Behind puts the lie to that.
Here are some FACTS about the ELC (which will be further detailed in an upcoming report by SPCNJ):
- ELC was the top recipient of NJEA money: $3,202,000 from 2009 to 2016, or over $400,000 per year.
- Two former Executive Directors of the NJEA, Vince Giordano and Ed Richardson, sit on the ELC’s Board of Trustees.
- ELC also receives funding from the AFT.
Now the ELC is trying to stop charter schools from offering pre-school in poor urban districts. We know the NJEA and AFT have long attacked charter schools, and here is the ELC doing the same. But how is that looking out for disadvantaged kids?
All of which leads one to ask: just whose interests is ELC representing?
