The NJEA-funded dark money group, New Direction New Jersey (NDNJ), is back at it. In a new digital ad that’s part of its $1 million ad campaign, the group states: “There’s no other way to put it – the system is rigged,” as reported by New Jersey Globe.
NDNJ is right: the system is rigged. And NDNJ is helping to rig it.
The system is rigged because a special interest like the NJEA has rigged the system for its own benefit. Our rigged political system allows the NJEA to siphon off hundreds of millions of property tax dollars (and teacher dues) so it can spend $65 million per year on politics. The NJEA is thus able to “elect its own bosses” at both the state and school district level. Look no further than Gov. Murphy appearing in NJEA-funded ads, calling for NJEA-supported policies, and using the same language the NJEA uses. Of course, Murphy also vetoed a bill that would have forced the NJEA to disclose its secret funding of NDNJ.
Yep, the system is rigged alright. And NDNJ is right in the middle of it.
