Thank to NJ Education Report for highlighting Sunlight’s response to Gov. Murphy’s inaugural address. We think NJEdReport plucked out the right lines. Like Politico‘s Matt Friedman (also quoted by NJEd Report), we question whether Murphy will reduce property taxes, and even if he does, he will likely raise other taxes to help him do it.
The bottom line is that Murphy is a status quo governor, and NJ’s status quo is dominated by the government unions and other special interest who want higher taxes so government can spend more … on them. They pumped in tens of millions dollars to get Murphy elected and re-elected. His first priority has been and will continue to be taking care of them.
NJ taxes will not go down.
